Opportunity
Honda's interactive agency wanted to give their client an a Preroll + 300 x 250 Companion ad campaign that let their users basically "kick the tires" of the 2006 Honda Ridgeline Truck, all through the browser of course.
I thought - "What a cool challenge!"
We sat down and came up with this prototype that still serves as Unicast's Preroll product offering demo since it's just that cool - still 3 years later.
Solution
We decided to use a combination between ActionScript Cue Points that trigger interactions in the 3D companion ad and visual cues within the video file itself that only respond when moused over or clicked on alerting the user to this enhanced 'out-of-the-box' experience.
This involved first creating the .flv first while embedding Cue Points and Mouse Over listeners to handle interactions with the video.
Next up we coded the 300x250 companion ad to work on it's own, allowing a user to spin the truck and zoom in on specific features.
Lastly we tied the two together using Flash's JavaScript Gateway API.
